Job Description
Understands OSP engineering and workmanship standards of ILEC and CLEC service providers.
Perform OSP Engineering work for both Fiber/Copper plants, including new subdivision layout, rehabilitation, underground structures including conduit and relocation of cable facilities.
Capable of facility analysis process to select areas for rehabilitation
Design outside plant facilities, conduit systems, buried and aerial facilities for both copper and fiber.
Be able to interpret substructure systems prints/plans, ROW/Easement documentation
Perform field survey/measurements for cable and terminal placement, bore details, hand holes, manholes (if required) and access cabinet locations (DLC, RT, VRAD, FDH, etc.).
Make sound engineering judgment in the field concerning cable footages, terminal and hand hole placements, etc.
Knowledge in designing FTTN/VRAD, FTTP, RT and routine engineering is a plus.
Attend the pre-construction meetings and perform site surveys.
Familiarity with various communications concepts such involving copper and fiber optic cable.
Candidates should have good leadership, organizational and communication skills.
Be able to interpret hand drafted OSP fiber feeder and distribution drawings from engineer field notes.
Able to interpret and design outside plant plans and records from draft form.
Experience with SBC OSP engineering is a big plus.
Experience with Opti-Lite and ARES drafting is a big plus.
Skills and Qualifications
Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
Understands telecom industry standards and practices
Strong analytical skills, the ability to meet deadlines, multi task and prioritize
Ability to work without direct supervision quickly in a dynamic environment
Ability to make high level design assumptions when provided limited information
Excellent written and oral communications, interpersonal, analytical, abstract reasoning and organizational skills
